Why are the Knicks winning now? They found a real point guard. You look at Amare and Carmelo, they are two of the biggest players in the NBA. Both can score and create offense by themselves. Now the Knicks got Chandler, yet they’ve barely won the entire season? It bothers me to have such a good team with good players suffer. I thought it was chemistry, but it’s already mid-season and the lockout should’ve given them enough time to play together. It goes back to the basics of any championship or top-caliber winning team in the NBA; the basics of having a point guard and a center.
If you look at every championship winning team, they’ve always had a point guard and big man low post. In the most rarest cases, they have an amazing guard that can carry the team all the way. The difference now, Jeremy Lin has impacted the Knicks in such a positive way that they’re beating the Wizards with Amare and Carmelo gone.
Why is that? Lin is very talented, but he’s a natural point guard. He knows how to play basketball as a guard and create an offense. He’s not as athletic as Derrick Rose or fast as Westbrook, but he gets the job done with simple penetrations, pick and rolls, give’n go’s, and a shitload of smart decisions. Right now, this is like college basketball mixing with the NBA in a sense that the Knicks are being introduce to the fundamentals of basketball, which they desperately needed.
If you look at the past couple games, the distribution of the ball is phenomenal. And LIN CAN SCORE. He’s not just there to pass the ball, but he can put the ball in the hole, which makes him exceedingly deadly as the Knick’s starting point guard. Chandler is having a field day down low with so many looks by Lin from the outside perimeter; it’s phenomenal yet simple basketball. I just can’t wait till Melo and Amare are back in action; hopefully everyone will mesh together. If they do, I’m not going to make assumptions, but that’s close to a championship team ;]
The only real test now is against a top team in the NBA. I hope they show up.
